My mother side had a vet on both sides her mothers GF served in 48th Va. Inf. Stonewall Jackson Div. from Abingdon, Va. Her fathers GF served in Union 8th TN Cav. from 1863 to 1865. My fathers side had only one vet from Liberty, SC. he served in 3rd SC Cav.

I am also hunting for my ancestor, Joel Blackwell, whom I believe died from disease. Before he died in Searcy Co. AR, but he was able to write his Will. In the Will he stated he wanted to be buried at home back in TX. I wish I could carry out his death wish.

after reading your posted article concerning the Black Confederate Soldiers, I saw the link to come to your main page. Enjoyed looking thru it. I am a proud Direct Descendant of 2 Confederate Soldiers that were from South Carolina and a Cousin and/or Nephew to another 7 that were from Richmong, Va. I am currently the 2nd Lt. Cmdr of my camp the Parish Mounted Rangers Camp #2222 in Goose Creek, SC. I have only been w/the SCV for a year now, but it is the best things Ive ever done. Ive learned a lot more then I previously knew about the War. I applaud you for your site and your pride. We are the Sons of Confederate Veterans and we have every right to be proud of our Confederate Ancestors and for what they did. Keep up the good work.

my third great grandfather served in the second virginia cav. co.i. he was cut in the head seven times at kellys ford and survived, then shot in the leg at trevillion station. he is buried at fort hill cemetary ,lynchburg va.
