What is your connection with Kythera? |
My great grandparents immigrated from Kythera in the early 1900\'s. My Papou and Yaya Chlentzos. |
Comments: |
I am interested in finding relatives, the history of Kythera, Greek recipes and learn more about my lineage. I took 2 years at Loyola Marymount in L.A. translating classical Greek but am ashamed to say I don\'t understand modern Greek. |

This has been a wonderful find. I am helping my niece research our family history, and we came upon this site. I am the granddaughter of Leon Arthur Combis, who was Athanasios\'s youngest son. Thank you for the amazing detail. I loved reading this. I have some of my grandfather\'s photos if you\'d like copies for the site. |

In 1997 my parents moved to Kythira as immigrants from Albania. My dad had been living there for a while in Kythira before we went there. In Kythira I grew up in Chora. I went to ΔΗΜΟΤΙΚΟ ΣΧΟΛΕΙΟ ΧΩΡΑΣ ΚΥΘΗΡΩΝ with my sister. My parents are well known in Chora, Kapsali, Mulotopamos, Livadi. My dad was one of the oldest Albanian masons in Kythira. He worked mostly in the south part of Kythira. In 2010 we moved in New York, where we currently live. |

the surnames of the people of Kythera are either Byzantium or venitian, the islanders who live on the north of the island are the Byzantium settlers and the south part was settled by the venetians. My Brother Peter was President of the Kytherian Association of Australia and my other Brother Emanuel was a member also as well as the President of AHEPA (australia)both of them were born in Australia before ww2 and on holiday in Kythera when WW2 broke out where they remained until the war ended and after the war ended they were able to return to Queensland Australia with me and our Parents, my mothers maiden name was Aroney. In 1988 the Family Comino held a reunion in Sydney as part of the bi centenary celebrations of Australia , over 300 Comino Kytherians and other islander relatives attended ,Most Kytherians have been very successfull with their carears or bussiness in Australia.............and have assimillated very well in their home........the legend lives on |

Ya-sou! I think my parents and grandparents are in the photograph on your site of the Kytherian Society of New York at Mike Ship- A-Hoy's - in the mid 40s!! Brought tears to my eyes. My father was Emmanuel (Mike) Kalligeros and my grandparents were Koula and Andrew. I heard about this restaurant my whole life, but was too young to see it. Of course, they all lived right there - until the city took over the real estate to build Lincoln Center and displaced many folks. Is the Kythera Society of NY still active - remember going to dances. I love the island - have not been back in years. As we all know - Kythera really is paradise! |
