I\'m starting to look into my Family History in the village of Whitwell. My Grandfather Jack BUCKINGHAM was from Whitwell and he had a lot of family in the village and also who worked at the Welbeck estate. The Buckingham Twin from Whitwell were my Great Uncles.

I love the history and photo\'s of Whitwell all helpful for researching my family, I would like to thank you all at the WLHG, especially the person who indexed the burials, that has been brilliant I have been looking for the place my great grandmother was buried without any success until now, she is in the index buried in the same grave as my great grandfather, I have also found many other relatives also in the index, thank you again.

Born and bred there and played with the bowls club for many years

Loved looking at the pics especially the bowls club ones,
I remember fondly most of these players whose names and memories have stayed with me all my life. Sadly virtually all have passed away now and the bowls club has moved to a new home. Even after all these years I still regard Whitwell as my home, and that says everything about this lovely village.

Hello..
I have just been viewing the photos on your excellent website.
The ones marked October 1.2.&3 Portland Street Chapel I am on all three
The first is Anniversary (I am third from the right,front row,centre
section..infants)
The other two are Chapel Pantomimes.
I am centre on No 2. with my dog,Tex My late mother is also on this
picture..
I am also centre stage on No. 3....I have a vague memory of this being
taken..I was told to "Watch the Birdie", which is why I am looking
up..(thats where birdies are,isnt it?)

My name back then was Yvonne Cross.
I grew up to become a professional dancer..I married a photographer, and
spent many years,also working with him as a photographer..( watch the
birdie!!)
We are retired now, and live near Morecambe.

I was born in 1946.Lived on Jubilee Crescent. Parents George and Alfreda Cross. I left the village to become a professional dancer, early 1960`s
Many years ago, before I was born. Mother ran a dancing school, called the Rondeau Sunbeams..We revived the classes briefly, together early 60`s.
I attended Whitwell School, and Then Netherthorpe. I would love to hear from any old pals..
