1990 Civic 1.8?? running rough,burnt valve or bad piston???

I have a rough running engine on this Civic. Not Head Gasket , that I do know. So...What are the possible causes other than bad spark or wires? Otherwise it runs good but smokes a little after it runs for a 10-15 mins. Buying it anyways for $250, figure it out later...
