Next WHW Family member to get media attention
After my brief flurry of being under the media spotlight at the weekend, today's WHW Family media darling hails from south of the border that separates Scotland from South Britain, aka England. Step into the limelight David Waterman...... As reported on some obscure BBC website I've been trying to navigate my way round this past half hour: "'Town hall snoopers' Finally, a child's pirate-themed birthday party has led to a father being hauled over the coals by his local council, reports the Daily Mail. David Waterman flew a Jolly Roger outside his house, but could now be prosecuted because it breaks regulations covering outdoor adverts. The Daily Mirror says "fun-loving" Mr Waterman is yet another victim of "council killjoys". The "town hall snoopers" are "numbskulls", it adds in disgust." The story seems to be gaining a momentum of tsunami proportions, though it is still second fiddle to Amy Winehouse's adventures of the day. Good on you, Dave. Who is next in line to get a WHW Family Equity card? Murdo

Thanks Murdo, I had London Tonight (London's ITV news channel) here today reporting on the battle with the council. Unfortunately it was a live broadcast but my daughter filmed it on her mobile phone. It's a dodgy, grainy 2MB recording but you can make out the 2006 West Highland way Race top I'm wearing for the interview!! I'll post it on my blog. Hey....DQ.....I got my mug in the media without having to spend a month in a cast!! Result!!! |

Dave ~ I thought your daughter had disinherited you over the Jolly Roger story for being so embarassing and uncool. But now she's filming you on her mobile phone while you're being interviewed by ITV. Perhaps you've got some street cred with the next generation after all! Murdo

Who knows how the minds of young folk work! The children were plotted up in the sitting room watching on TV while dad was a few feet away on a satellite broadcast. When the cameras closed I heard 'Hooorayyy' from the house!!! No doubt I'll be a grumpy old bugger again tomorrow. |

Did you know he was also featured on Channel 5's The Wright Stuff this morning during their run through of headlines and stories in the day's newspapers? I snorted tea through my nose at the shock of it all. Matthew Wright and his panel thought it was a disgrace that father couldn't display a Jolly Rodger for his little girl's birthday party. They said well done for persuing it! |

You now need to plan the next stage of the media campaign lest your sterling efforts so far begin to lose wind, stutter and stop. What about something akin to asking people to honk their horns in support? Could be to shout aaaar if they support, or to comment on your blog, or email you with an aaar if they support. I'd certainly aaar for you. Aaar. See, I did it again.

Maybe Dave's quiet cul-d-sac will become a tourist attraction, like those houses that are festooned with Christmas decorations completely over-the-top, and folk (with nothing better to do) come from miles around to look at them and contribute £s to a good cause charity. Dave's neighbours will be very pleased to have the road clogged up with traffic, folk honking their horns and shouting "Arrrrrrr, me timbers!". And if Dave takes down the flag the visitors will then knock on the neighbours doors asking for directions to the house of The Famous One. This show gets better (?) by the minute. Murdo

Keith if you are doing Pirate quotes: “Merchant and pirate were for a long period one and the same person. Even today mercantile morality is really nothing but a refinement of piratical morality.” Friedrich Nietzsche - Philosopher and ultra runner |

To bring it back to running "I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, A poet, a pawn and a king; I’ve been up and down and over and out, And I know one thing; Each time I find myself flat on my face, I pick myself up and get back in the race" |

I did suggest that this years Buff be the Skull and Cross Bones. If Dario had agreed we could all have been seen to be supporting Dave in his fight against injustice. Shame on you Dario! |
