Over 10,000 hits

On behalf Paul Russell, the film crew and myself, the Star of the film, I would just like to thank the Youtube and Google Video viewers the world over for taking our little production to this incredible milestone.

I wonder if Paul ever thought that this might happen as he conceptualised the idea for the film as we got blootered in the University of Paisley Student Union that night in 2005. I am sure he probably did as he already knew what an athlete and talented individual he would have at the very core of the piece. From my point of view it was a little less sure as he just looked liked a guy getting pissed on Stella. Ten a penny in Paisley.

Whether through luck or talent, Paul almost managed to capture the enormity of the life alterting, world shaking and inspirational events that were to transpire on that historic day in June 2006. He has told me since that there were times that he was almost brought back to sobriety by the emotional turmoil of the day.

To finish, I would just like to thank Paul Russell, Martin Smith and Paul Steele (the Film Crew); Pauline McKie, Paul & Marie Annn Walker, Kenny Murray and Arthur Loughran (the Support Crews); Tim Downie for helping me along the Way (and listening to my moaning); The Catholic Church, for without the rythmn method I would not be here; Dario for allowing this testiment to the fortitude of man to be made; and finally, to thank you, all the little people for watching and giving me the celebrity I so richly deserve.

I love you all.

What a shame Mike Mason, the Essex King of Bling is on holiday at the moment. I'm sure he'd like to comment on your post, Mark!!

I liked the bit about the Catholic Church, mate...made me laugh...

What film is this?

Are you able to give us a link to it?

Re: Over 10,000 hits

What film is this? WHAT FILM? THE film Murdo. The film that is the quinessential runners flick. 'My Heart's in the Highlands'. A veritable rollercoaster of a movie.

I do not go courting publicity so will not lower myself to providing a link, but will say that if you use your mouse and go up to 'Race Community' and then 'Runner's Videos' there is a goldmine digitally reproduced imagery there.

Be prepared though. Turn the phone off, have beer and tissues handy because what you find there is emotional and, yes, spiritual dynamite.

Again I have to say that I take no responsibility if this film invokes life altering thoughts and feelings. You have been warned.

Re: Over 10,000 hits

If only Youtube would let you check the stats of the viewers, we might find that 9,000 of the hits are Mark's.

Still, it's an excellent piece that deserves the attention it's had. Just a shame that so many shots of me ended up on the cutting room floor.

Re: Over 10,000 hits

What a film! That is amazing. Just seen it on YouTube where it says that there have been 8,936 viewings. So for DQ to bring it up to his 10,000 figure means he has only massaged the figures by 1,064.

It should be compulsory viewing prior to race entry being allowed. That should keep race entry numbers down. Conversly, though, the opportunity to meet the Great Man himself may attract a different sort of clientele to the event.

Re: Over 10,000 hits

Yes, I have to agree Murdo, I'm...sorry, the film is wonderful.

No massaging necessary as there are over 1100 hits on Google Video as well.

I am happy to be giving something back to the sport.

Re: Over 10,000 hits

I agree DQ, it is truly wonderful.

The star of the show should be awarded a BAFTA for his performance:

"Broken Ankle Fractured Toenail Award"

That's what BAFTA stands for, isn't it?

It's not about the awards Murdo. It's the work that matters.

Re: Over 10,000 hits

I'm just in awe of how (and why!) you kept going. Its hard enough as it is without the added agonies that you had.

On a similar theme, I was recently watching the TV series on the guy (Mark Beaumont) who cycled round the world last year, and wondering how I would handle (or not handle) some of the vicissitudes he faced along the journey. He covered c 18,000 miles in c 180 days; so an average of c 100 miles a day every day for 6 months or so. Remarkable resilience and mental fortitude. Good on him! Did you see it? I wonder what he will go on to do in the long term after that experience.

(Digressing away a bit from WHW race here but, I hope, not too much so)

Re: Over 10,000 hits

I'm in awe at how anyone could have possibly NOT heard of Mark's video until now.

Regarding the how and why, I think the word "stupidity" covers both.

(I say this having completed my own run in 2005 due to similar - if not quite as extreme - levels of stupidity)

Re: Over 10,000 hits

Murdo - saw the doco series about the cycling bloke - what a single minded chap he was.. The bit where he rode across Australia was a belter.... 2 weeks at 100 miles a day into a head wind and scorching heat. I have driven this and it is just barren.. Really inspiring to see such dedication.

Not too off piste - surely now that 10,000 hits has been we can move on ... Seen the video, heard the plaudits.. inspirational blah blah blah but I reckon this thespian is a bit of a one trick pony... I mean if he was really dedicated to his public he would entering more events and finding even more dastardly ways of injuring himself... eg LEJOG 2009 - whilst leaving Lands End, got hit by a falling satelite and had to run the next 600 miles with a solar panel stuck out of my right shoulder.. C'mon DQ, don't disappoint your peeps...
ps - 10,000 Hits is not that many when you have support crew / camera crew numbering into the 100's...

Nice one Corned Beef....in Mike Mason's absence you've taken up the mantle of revealing the outrageous number of semi-professional film production staff that follow Mark around.

Re: Over 10,000 hits

Mark, well done. It was a fine production. A genuine picture of fortitude. A 'real man's triumph. The fact that you are now known as 'one buttock Hamilton' is probably the name of the next film you are working on.....

ps don't forget to upset Gill when we come up for the race by casually mentioning that you were the guy she asked to kneel down as you were blocking the view at the prize giving that year. She visibly pales everytime I mention it...I just laugh loudly.....excellent!!

Re: Over 10,000 hits

And there you have it. Documentary proof that Mike is either wasted on drugs or has joined some kind of mind bending commune.

What is the point of me taking the time to put stuff like this up on the forum if Mike doesn't come back and extracts the complete urine out of it?

Mike, one mention of my one buttocked-ness is not enough.

Re: Over 10,000 hits

"One buttock man" reminds me of the Terry Pratchett character, "One man bucket", so called because he was named after the americam indian tradition of naming a child after the first thing seen by the mother after delivery.

Alas, his twin brother born just before him wasn't so fortunate. When asked if his brother's name was "Two dogs fighting" he replied, "Two dogs fighting? He's give his right arm to be called Two dogs fighting!".

Consequently, I shall henceforth always think of DQ as "One man buttock".

Re: Over 10,000 hits

So is the soft 'n cuddly moniker "DQ" to be officially replaced by "OMB", which sounds like some low life award in the Honours List?

I take it all back - I think there is now another film that all of us OBQ's (One Bum Queenies) can see of our beloved idol... Unfortunately you have to get through 3:08 of lesser mortals until the Money Shot is delivered. Well worth the wait, such pathos, such good looks... Oh I need a cold shower...

PS - How did they secure the great man to do the finishing at the Fling .. What an honour to shake his hand after 53 miles !!

Re: Over 10,000 hits

Keith, fantastic....thanks. Did you notice the small tractor type vehicle pulling a trailer chasing some sheep in the early bit? That was DQOB's luvvy equipment in tow - G&T's, copies of Stage Magazine, midget film crew members etc. Also just before Mark speaks...I froze in absolue horror...was that Ian 'it's my lucky footbrace' Rae? Or just someone that looks as ugly?
