Saturday 29 March 2008 Training Run
Just some advance notice for our next training run ... Saturday 29 March 2008... The plan is to run from Tyndrum to Fort William (42miles). Some may want to join us at Bridge of Orchy or Kingshouse if you don't want to run the full distance. We would aim to start running by 8am at the latest so we can catch the train back to Tyndrum or if there are enough of us to share a taxi/mini bus. Last year it worked out about £12 each. I think the train is about £15. I'll check details nearer the time. Post below if you are planning to join us and/or can help with back-up .... John |

John I will be there for the whole run subject to being injury free. I completed the half marathon yesterday with no real problems - just a bit stiff this morning. Jan will be able to support throughout as well. See you all on the 29th Jon C |

John, I can't make it as we have a wedding that day but I hope to do the same route a few days later. Are you planning to post your anticipated splits for this run as I'd be interested to roughly follow them. Hope to catch up with everyone at the Fling and thanks again for organising last weeks outing. |

John, I will try to be there. There is also a chance that I can persuade Silke to provide backup again.

Looking good already. Ian K - I will certainly post my predicted times but going on your pace from Saturday you will need to deduct several minutes!!!! Gavin - it will be good to see you again. Hope you are running well - no injury? John |

Hi John - I can't make this one - but Jim Alexander asked me to put his name down for this. Cheers! |

John, I predict 8:20. So you don't have to run alone. Silke (yes she is providing support again!) could pick up up to 4 runners in KLL and drive them to Fort Bill in case someone wants to go a shorter distance or changes his (her) mind during the And I have contacts now! (check my blog!)

Hey JK, Could you please remind me of the proposed dates for the May run? If my memory serves me correctly it's the same weekend of the Women's 10K (and Marco's three peaks thingy), so I'm torn. I presume April's is the Highland Fling? Thanks Debs |
John Kynaston
Feb 26th, 2008 - 2:37 PM |
Hi Debbie Yes April's run is the Highland Fling - Sat 26 April. We have a two day run planned in May - Fri/Sat 16 & 17 May. If you are planning to run both days you'll need to book the Bridge of Orchy Hotel Bunkhouse ..or the hotel itself. The Bunkhouse costs £13. Not sure the prise of the hotel. Phone Number 01838 400208. Last year a number of folk joined us for the Saturday so that is an option. I found it really helpful last year doing the two days. I was sore after day 1 and so ran from Bridge of Orchy to Fort William in a similar state to what I was on the race day!! Hope you will be able to join us. John |

should I or shouldn't I that's the question. i am up in Scotland for this so in theory would love to join you for this training run. The query comes from it being so close to london and one of my goals for this year was to do the marathon in under 3.45hrs Do you think doing this would hinder my chances at the same time I am also wanting to keep my training on traget for doing the whw. Debbie i notice from your blog you are also doing london and taking part in the run,any advice will be greatly received. I did think about making this run my weekly mileage.Do you think this would work. i would lovre to get back out on the route and to run with like minded folk |

Hi John, just thought I'd add my name to the list. I suspect I'll join you at BoO though. |

Feb 27th, 2008 - 4:26 AM |
Hi Alyson, Like you, my main focus over the next couple of weeks is London. I'm not 100% sure that I will take part in March's jaunt. I may volunteer to support. Right now I'm going on the basis that I will run (on my lonesome) from Kingshouse to Fort William. Well, more of a run/walk. Just for time on feet, without taking too much out of my legs. I was thinking of dropping Marco off at Tyndrum, driving to Kingshouse and starting straight away. Let me know if this plan suits you better? I don't want to upset John's plans, but I don't want to miss out on the day out. They're too much fun Debs |

Feb 28th, 2008 - 12:16 AM |
Hi Debs that sounds like a good workable plan if you don't mind me tagging along I would like to join you from Kingshouse . if it is okay with you can I meet you at tyndrum and then get a lift to kingshouse. at the end of the run I can run you back to kingshouse to collect your car. good luck with your training. Hi all So far we the following for this run .... Starting from Tyndrum (8am but some may want to styart earlier?) John Kynaston, Marco Consani, Jon Cornall, Gavin Melville, Davie Bell, Thomas Loehndorf, Jim Alexander, Neal Gibson Joining at Bridge of Orchy Tim Downie Starting from Kingshouse Debbie Martin-Consani, Alyson Macpherson Jan Cornall & Silke Loehndorf have offered support for the day - Thanks. Regarding getting back to our cars at Trydrum - there may be spaces in Jan & Silke's cars (are you planning to go back to Tyndrum or going on from FW?) I've checked the train times - there is a train leaving FW at 17.37 (arriving Tyndrum 19.10) cost £14.20. The other option is to share a taxi - I think last year we ended up getting a mini bus size and it cost about £12 each. Anyone else planning to join us? Plenty of time to decide. You will be welcome whatever pace you want to run at. John |

John, I'm thinking of running from Bridge of Orchy on 29th but might start at 8:00 from there to give me a chance !! Michelle and Stevie are thinking of starting from BoO as well. Can you add us to your list and as you say maybe enough of us to get a taxi

I'm looking forward to our next run, a week tomorrow (29 March). Here is the list of folk who have said they are coming .... 8am from Tyndrum John Kynaston, Marco Consani, Neal Gibson, Jon Cornall, Gavin Melville, Davie Bell, Thomas Loehndorf, Jim Alexander. 8am from Bridge of Orchy Ellen Thomson, Michelle, Stevie, Tim Downie (what time are you planning to start Tim?) From Kingshouse Debbie Martin-Consani, Alyson Macpherson (what time are you planning to start?) At the moment Jan Cornall and Silke Loehndorf have said they will provide back-up during the day. Can you give lifts back to Tyndrum or are you heading north? For those who can't get lifts back to Tyndrum we can either catch the train (17.37 from Fort William) or share a min-bus taxi. If anyone can't make or if anyone else would like to join us please leave a post here or contact me via email. John |

John I'll not be joining you all on this one. I am planning a run from Milngavie that day - probably Milngavie to Balmaha and back if anyone doesn't fancy the trip up North, they're welcome to join me. I haven't decided yet but it will probably be an early start (6:30am) I hope your run goes well |
Jon Cornall
Mar 21st, 2008 - 6:30 AM |
John I am still running from Tynedrum but will probably start earlier - possibly 0600 or slightly later. You will catch me somewhere down the route. Jan will still support but we will go home from Fort William as it is quite a significant detour to go back to Tyndrum. See you all on Saturday Jon C |

John, we can provide a lift for 3 more folks back to BOO or Tyndrum. |

Mar 25th, 2008 - 8:22 AM |
John, we will take Marco and Debs back from Fort William to Kingshouse. That is there is one more space in our car to get someone back to the start (or BoO - or KLL - Peter?). See you on Saturday!

Hi John, In answer to your question ages ago (what time will I start at BOO?) the answer has to be "as soon as I can get up there". I'd like to join Ellen et al but getting from Ayr to BOO in time for an 8:00 am start may just be too much. In practice, I think it'll be nearer 9:00 unless I develop a hitherto unknown ability to drag myself out of bed before 5 am! |

For once I can comment on conditions on the way as opposed to fearing the worst when I read everyone lucky enough to be there week in week out! I was up there last Friday and it proved the highlight of my few days on the way. I went from the staircase to Kinlochleven and back again and had a ball in the snow/sleet. I didn't think the conditions were too bad but there was no time for standing still that's for sure. There were very few people out that day but I was lucky enough to meet a bunch of walkers who took a snap of me at the top of the staircase, I look cold and windswept but very happy! |

Hi everyone Things are looking good for Saturday. The bbc weather forecast for Fort William is for light showers so that sounds all right. Here are my predicted timings (last year's timings for this run in brackets) ... Tyndrum to Bridge of Orchy (6miles) - 1hr 10mins (1hr 08mins plus 2min stop) Bridge of Orchy to Kingshouse (13miles) - 2hr 05mins (2hr 05mins plus 11min stop) Kingshouse to Kinlochleven (8miles) - 2hrs 00mins (1hr 48mins plus 7min stop) Kinlochleven to Lundavra (8miles) - 1hr 30mins (1hr 32mins plus 3mins) Lundavra to Fort William (7miles) - 1hr 25mins (1hr 23mins) We'll see how close they are but it will give me an idea of what I'm aiming for. Others may want to go faster, others slower but for me this is my whw pace for the first 43 miles and not the times I would expect to do this section on race day (though it would be great if I could!) So see you all at Tyndrum - ready for a 8am start (unless you are planning to start earlier or from a different point). John |

Hi everyone To finalise timings for Saturday ... Here is what I have so far ... 6am or so from Tyndrum Jon Cornall (supported by Jan) 8am from Tyndrum John Kynaston, Marco Consani, Neal Gibson (supported by Caroline and Dad), Gavin Melville (are you still coming Gavin?), Davie Bell, Thomas Loehndorf (supported by Silke), Jim Alexander (are you starting with this main group Jim?) Plus Ian Beattie is going to run with us for a couple of hours, then will run back to Tyndrum. 8am from Bridge of Orchy Ellen Thomson, Michelle, Stevie, Tim Downie (maybe starting at 9am) From Kingshouse Debbie Martin-Consani, Alyson Macpherson (will meet us at Tyndrum at 8am then drive to Kingshouse and start running from Kingshouse) Regarding lifts back to cars .... Silke & Thomas will take Marco & Debbie (& Alyson?) Neal will take me (& room for one more) That leaves 6-7 needing to share a taxi or train. Hope that's okay. Any changes please let me know so we don't miss anyone. See you Saturday John |

Hi John, I'll be there. Not sure if i'll manage the fully distance yet or not, i may run out for a bit with you guys then head back to Tyndrum, i'll see how the leg holds up. Hopefully it'll be ok. Where about in Tyndrum are we meeting? See you on Saturday. Gavin |

John Rather late in posting this but I am also intending to join the run this weekend. I was wanting to go from Tyndrum at 8am but am concerned that that will leave me trailing that group all the way. If I can get out my bed early enough I'll head off from Tyndrum at 7:30 am - if I am late as per usual then I'll see you guys at 8am. Aileen |

Hi John - just checked with Jim Alexander and he will definitely be at Tyndrum at 8am to start with main group. I was up Devil's Staircase on Monday - a bit icy and slippy across the top but otherwise OK underfoot. One bonus coming down into Kinlochleven was that the normally stoney path was relatively smooth. I had to pull over 3 times to let heavy trucks pass since there seems to be building work near the pipes. They were doing a grand job of ironing out the stones. Cheers Mags |

Ellen, Michelle and Steve can't make our run tomorrow. They are planning a more local run. I've looked on the met office web site for a weather report for tomorrow and it looks alright. Have a look at http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/he/fort_william_forecast_weather.html Basically visibility is good, wind south (23mph) and some light showers. John |

I had problems in trying to upload my video to google video so have now tried youtube (which is owned by google video anyway). The thing about youtube is that the video can't be over 10mins so I've had to upload it in two parts. Part 1 is now on my blog and Part 2 will (hopefully) come soon.
