Message:   I am a chemist by education, but no longer practice. I am involved in a group (www.afibbers.org) that are trying to solve our arrhythmia problems, that we all share. We are either vagally or adrenergically mediated. The vagal's arrhythmias happen mostly at night after dinner and the adrenergics happen mostly during the day. The man who initiated this site has kept records, and a large percentage of his episodes occur betw. 3-4pm(he's adrenergic). Adrenergics are typically exercise induced and vagals are induced mostly at rest or after a meal. I am vagal, and presented the fact that the pineal gland may very well play a part here, but one of the doctors(has AF) at this site says that melatonin is vagally mediated. Vagals are parasympathetic dominate and we are trying to 1) counteract glutamate's excitotoxicity by means of P5P and niacin to increase GABA and/or 2) boost cholinesterase to calm acetylcholine. It appears that melatonin blocks GABA at night, which may not be the way to go, but I feel tryptophan/serotonin/melatonin and the circadian rhythm are somehow playing a part. It just seems strange that we all share similar rhythm patterns. Do you have an opinion on this or could you guide me in a better direction of research. I am presently having a battery of tests done through molecular laboratories, but am awaiting the results. I have been studying for months now, trying to find some answers to the commonality of our plight. Any information you could give me would be very much appreciated. We all feel we do not want to have ablations and are trying to solve this dilemna through nutrition. Thank you for your time.
