Roof Grass

Hey Russ, any idea why the SeaPrison tries to grow grass on their roofs? Is it just a feeble attempt to look eco-friendly, or what?

Re: Roof Grass

alot of houses in hornby island have grass on thier roofs, occasionaly trees...but thats on purpose,i seriously doubt msq has grass on the roof on purpose..

Re: Roof Grass

If it was indeed intentional to be eco-friendly, they're doing a really poor job of it. The grass is actually quite thin because of the gravel, and I have yet to see anyone care for it.

Re: Roof Grass

How pathetic.MSQ cant even take care of GRASS. Its a wonder how theyve kept Lolita alive for over thirty years.

Re: Roof Grass

You have a good point, Russ. If I were Lolita, I would have given up and bought it like Hugo had a long time ago just so I wouldnt have to live in that disgusting place full of dying dolphins and cheap roof grass. I wonder why she's kept the will to survive for so long. Does she actually have hope that she'll be rescued some day?

Re: Roof Grass

Hey, Russ, would they arrest someone you planted themselves in front of the Seaquarium entrance and refused to let anyone enter, because giving the seaquarium money is supporting Lolitas eventual death in captivity?

Re: Roof Grass

No. I wish I was, so that I could help protest the place. It might make me feel better that I was getting involved. However, I dont think I could stand to live in Florida all year round. Its too hot and flat for my preference, though it is very beautiful.

Re: Roof Grass

POW, I suggest you do a bit of research before you spout off random "facts" talking about a place "full of dying dolphins." They wouldnt have any more animals if this was true.

MSQ has a reputation for having old animals. April was the last dolphin who passed away and she was in her 40s. Not to mention, they have sea lions there well into their 30s. I dont have to mention Tokis age.

They have some of the oldest animals in captivity, so obviously they must be doing something right.
Nothing is wrong with the care the animals receive. They are treated better than a lot of humans are these days.

Re: Roof Grass

Anon you have a point, but I did see Slave to Entertainment and it doesn't take a moron to see that Lolita's tank is way too small.

Re: Roof Grass

I have never said her tank is appropriate.

All of us would like to see her get a new one.

However, its not going to happen.
Blaming her trainers for that is not the answer however. They do the very best they can with what they are given.
They take wonderful care of her and do what they can to make her life a happy one. Even if her tank isn't what it should be.
If she were so depressed and treated so badly, she would have died years ago.

Re: Roof Grass

umm, Anon, where in this thread does it talk about blaming her trainers for her quality of life?? One thing though, if her trainers were to speak up a bit, maybe something more could be done. I think some of them refuse to say anything because they can't for fear of losing their jobs. One of the visiting vets has already said something and was basically not asked to return!!

Re: Roof Grass

Talk about democracy(sarcastic tone)Another reason not to work there. And ever time you go there, you are supporting Mr.Hertz's greed, and the workers' low wages.

Re: Roof Grass

The talk about trainers not being able to speak up for fear of losing their jobs is an activist fantasy. I don't know a single trainer afraid to speak up if they thought the quality of their animals care could be positively affected.

Re: Roof Grass

Funny Bob, please explain why a visiting vet filed a report about Lolita's food quality and was never asked to return??? Or why is it MSQ has changed labs (the ones for food testing , water testing)3 times in the last 2 years??? I can tell you. What MSQ doesn't like to hear, they ignore. The labs were bringing in results that didn't satisfy MSQ, so they got a better paid second opinion!!!
So yeah, MSQ employees, speak out all you like!!! Remember though, don't use any identifying info on this site and get caught cause we all know what will happen then.
Oh and Bob, I suggest visiting MSQ's site and sending in some harmless questions about orcas or manatees, you will soon see how fast THEY can ban you!!!
