Re: lolita jumps?

Animals dont need a signal in order to do a behavior.
Toki enjoys messing with the audience and likes to get them wet.
I've seen her splash people numerous times without a trainer signaling her.

She's just having fun.

Re: lolita jumps?

Toki does indeed have tendacies to interact with onlookers without her cues. Probably as Russ said, out of boredom. She may also like the interaction as she is alone (except for lags, of course. I will also agree with Anon, (a first, I think) that Toki loves to splash people.I have seen her do this many times outside of her show. She will even splash the visiting vets when she has a chace. Though i do believe, she is simply trying to interact with something other than her tank walls.

Re: lolita jumps?

Ya, she's just having fun. She'd much rather be in that pool with loud music blaring, performing and jumping than being in the wild with her family. You are kidding no one.

Re: lolita jumps?

its pathetic to see lolita there`look god didnt make whales to be in a tank!
second her show is just 5% education which can be found in a little kid book!

i hate when ignorent people asume lolitas doing great! build a new tank!
or something.she only breaches half of her body out of the water anyways!

ive been freakin called a PETA fanatic! ***** please lol
what makes seaquarium so bad to build a new tank or move her a new facility!

miamiseaquarium excuses:

shes to old to be put in a new tank.if people are to say we dont love her and care for her why would we be keeping her alive all these years......

she cant be sent to seaworld nore another place cause she hasnt seen another orca in years and might kill her.......

MY FEAR REALLY IS LOLITA DYING! my heart will be broken!
i adore lolita dearly

Re: lolita jumps?

i like how some of you guys magically KNOW what she is thinking. makes me laugh.
Some orcas like breaching and splashing the people they are seeing. Or she could have an itch, many reasons why she could have breached.
I love her breach right here, looks so wild.

Re: lolita jumps?

your so PRO cativity ****** me off!
orcas arent designed to listening to ricky martin and jennifer lopez lmao ^_^

ive been told that con captivity people like russ and i and hundreds of other people like to lie and instagate stuff!
for example!
"LOLITAS DYING TO AMUSE YOU"
to be honest with you i dont get it either.
but the point is lolita is only kept alive cause god wants her too! and every day she sees is another day of probably something new that is going to happen!
you never know she probably could get a new tank or even be free`!

Re: lolita jumps?

corkylover wtf you make me luagh. "They like to spalsh around." I can see you are pro captive.

I think instead of spalshing around she wants to be free and get more space to turn around!

Maybe the trainers love her, I think they do, but they have a strange way to show it. And Hertz he CANT love her only the money she brings in. If you love an animal you doing everything you can to keep it happy, and he dont!He syaas they cant afford to build a new tank for her. Yea, cant afford to take care of an animal right way dont keep them. Or dont he want to build a new tank beacuse he dont know how long she will live and he dot want to spend money for her.

She will die if she get moved haha, joke of the year!

Re: lolita jumps?

ok first off, he can build her a new tank! If they built that stupid swimming with dolphins, they can build a new tank.

And Olivia, as I said, you guys do NOT know what's going through her head. She may like splashing people, she may not. I know alot of the orcas in SW like to, and it amuses them.
So what if I'm pro captivity? If they are in there, for more than twenty years or so, they shouldn't go back to the wild. I don't support captures or killings. Plain and simple. I wish people had more common sense to take care of an animal like her, but they don't.
I'm sure the trainers love her, but they can't really do anything about the space she lives in...only Hertz can. Yes I'm sure she'd like a bigger tank, but you know that's been her home for a long time.

As Russ so lovely said, the chance for Lolita to be released passed by 15 years ago.

Re: lolita jumps?

to be honest with you the wild isnt a great idea for her`!
for thousands of animals in captivity are having a good life!
but for some like lolita and kshamenk and idk animals in general in japan lol
are having a horrible life~!

Re: lolita jumps?

I can't believe you people! I last saw Lolita about 2 years ago before the show started, which seems to be the case in this video, and she was calm as can be, or maybe depressed as can be, and she was allowing the onlookers to touch her head as she popped out to observe everyone. Her attitude in this video seems quite different, she looks either excited or agitated. Probably the latter is the case, either way, this is no way for an animal to be held for so many years.

These people's excuse for not building her a new tank is unacceptable. If your elderly mother was in a run down nursing home that abused or neglected her, wouldn't you move her to a newer, better facility??? So what's the difference? The fact that when she dies they get 1 million dollars? Guess they have a reason to let her die. *******s! I'll see you in hell!

P.S. Like all ignorant people I went to the Seaquarium before doing my research. I wanted to take my little sister there as a reward for a job well done in school that year. The only thing I got out of that experience was sadness and outrage. I couldn't believe I spent over $50.00 to get into a half-assed oceanic amusement park that is falling apart. The sadest thing of all was Lolita. I wanted to cry when we walked into her performance area. I was appauled and compelled to ask the trainers if this was the same Lolita I saw as a child in the 80's. To my surprise, it was, which saddened me even more. If I had lead this kind of existence for 30 years, I would've killed myself. Since that day, I have vowed NEVER go there again and to inform everyone of their abuse.

Re: lolita jumps?

well, sorry you had such a bad experience.

But what I've seen out of this is that she actually has the will to live, and that's proving something.

As for the wild, yes it is an unsafe place for a captive animal to go...their immune system would not last it. Sadly. So I agree with you christian.

Re: lolita jumps?

i just remembered that when i my first post that i posted here 3 years ago was about lolita jumping and acting krazy..remember russ?
i wrote that lolita was racing around like 40 mph. chasing after li'i
and the little dolphin was oh so scared and beach himself to escape from her! and lolita was jumping and making waves that were like 4 feet high and the water was coming out of the tank! and my mom quoted saying "oh my goodness shes going to kill herself"
we thought really she was going to bash her head! thats how fast she was going!
a little kid i remember said "did the show start already"? lol
and the next that i remember is the security calling one of the trainers and some chick came and blew the whistle real loud!
and everything calmed down!....

Re: lolita jumps?

I have heard that she and Li'i do not get along sometimes, that's probably why she was chasing him. But there are days they play together and have fun. It's hillarious.

Speaking of using proper grammar? You mean to use "they're" then. A contraction of "they are".

Really now...

hmm so when a captive orca jumps, that means its bored

but when a wild orca jumps its perfectly overjoyed and content

**** i can tell this is seriously anti cap here

remind me never to get info from this sight if i ever do a report on orcas.

Re: lolita jumps?

Allow me to explain. When a whale is in captivity with only dolphins to communicate with, and has 5 minutes to yet another show its gonna get bored and anxious so therefore its gonna amuse itself by jumping.! Now in the wild it is either doing it because there is a crowd of people in boats so it wants to amuse them or scare them or because Its Happy or maybe even mad. Or trying to actract a mate.

Aug 12th, 2008 - 11:18 AM
Re: lolita jumps?

Jumping is usualy just for thier own personal amusement,it has little to do with comunication and definitely not used to attract a mate.Orcas are highly inteligent but some things in life, even in the wild, arent serious at all.

Re: lolita jumps?

5 minutes between shows? first off, she performs only 2 shows daily.

so your saying theres only 10 minutes in a day?

its for her own personal ammusement, just being random, people here seriously need to get their facts straight. this is the most misleading forum ive ever seen.

Re: lolita jumps?

The reason any captive orca or dolphin jumps is because first off, they all may have a playful disposition. Breaching is not documented as sign of depression or boredom, you CANNOT say that theres a different meaning to breaching in the wild as opposed to in captivity.

And uhh yea, on the original random persons comment, breaching is not used to attract a mate.
