I have a 6yo male canary and lately he's been quieter and less active. He's started loosing feathers as if he's headed into his molt, which would make sense if this were a month or so from now. His droppings are a little watery. I've double checked for drafts and other environmental problems-- there's nothing. He's the only bird in the house.
Sometimes he flits around and sings just like normal, but then other times I catch him sitting on the perch in the darkest part of the cage with his feathers puffed and his eyes half closed.
Is it too early for a molt? I can't think of any sort of trauma or event that might have triggered one out of season. Am I being completely paranoid? How can I be proactive to help my little guy?
Many thanks for any help. |
