Re: I'm finally home! State complaints

With the way schools are across the country, this site should be FLOODED with people!
Anyway, each state has a specific process in which to file state complaints. In my state, the complaint you have has to be in violation of one or more of the IDEA federal laws, or the state special ed laws.
I had to list each statute from the law that the school was violating. I had room to briefly explain my situation. When state called me, they had an earful of my whole story.
But, it did no good. State did not investigate my complaint in the correct legal process. Their report did not state that the school did anything wrong. State never replied to my many attempts to contact them.
A site that will really help you is www.schwablearning.org you will see a drop down box 'how can we help you' click on this box then click on 'i need to connect with other parents' then on next page, click on 'parent to parent message board' You will get LOTS of help there.
Your situation is not an isolated one. This is going on all across the country with no help in site.

You wrote-I feel that he is denying my child inclusion services based on that alone.

What schools don't tell you is that parents and schools are suppose to follow a specific legal process in special ed. If school didn't follow this process legally, you can file complaints for that.

Re: I'm finally home! State complaints

Welcome to our site! I'm sorry to hear of your troubles with the school. While I've never gotten to the complaint stage with my school, many parents on our listserv have. I can tell you that you need to be very specific in your complaint and it should focus on your child. But if you know of other parents with the same complaints, it might be worth your time to band together and contact the Office for Civil Rights and see if you can catch their interest. No promises on any action from them, but schools generally don't like to be put under any type of scrutiny. A good website to check out is www.wrightslaw.com. Tons of info on there.

Good luck!
