Ache

Welcome to the Ache Forum. This was created to promote community within the underground music / art scene. It will (hopefully) be a forum of inspiration and positivity, and help us get to know eachother and get organized.
I welcome you to discuss means of getting active in your scene, music, art, and things that make you happy. Critisism is great too, but if I feel your comment is counter-productive (ie. critical for the sake of controversy alone, or to prove a bad-ass you are), I'll take it off.

Commence communal activity!

Burn to Shine

Anyone else seen these? It's a series of dvds produced by Brendan Canty... each features a different city, and about 8 or 9 bands playing one song each in a house condemned to be demolished. At the end of each they film the houses being destroyed - the idea, I guess, being that you couldn't recreate the events of the film if you wanted to. And the creation/destruction juxtaposition o' course.

Anyway, volumes 1 and 2 are out now... D.C. and Chicago, respectively. The music and cinematography are generally great... I think Zulu and Red Cat have them but Scratch still seems puzzled when I ask about it. I didn't mean for this post to be a gigantic ad, just wondering if others have seen these and recommending them for anyone who hasn't. Very inspiring and cool...

They have a website: www.trixiedvd.com

Yeah there's a thing in XLR8R about the Chicago one... I think some pretty huge bands played it too... SHellac and stuff... although I've never actually seen them for sale anywhere... maybe it's more of a mailorder type thing?

Re: Burn to Shine

It's probably just weak distrobution at this point. I saw them for sale in Victoria too so it's probably just a matter of time before they catch on.

Yeah, Shellac is on the Chicago one, as is Wilco(!) ...kind of funny seeing huge bands performing in a house, although Shellac definitely plays some unexpected venues (Wiffle ball tournaments, anyone?)

I'd definitely reccommend DC over Chicago if you purchase/view just one. Looking forward to Portland...
