Ache

Welcome to the Ache Forum. This was created to promote community within the underground music / art scene. It will (hopefully) be a forum of inspiration and positivity, and help us get to know eachother and get organized.
I welcome you to discuss means of getting active in your scene, music, art, and things that make you happy. Critisism is great too, but if I feel your comment is counter-productive (ie. critical for the sake of controversy alone, or to prove a bad-ass you are), I'll take it off.

Commence communal activity!

Fela Kuti - Expensive **** / He miss Road
- great african funk legend.

Black Eyes - Cough
- i'm a sucker for those stupid dancebeats

Düreforsög - Engine Machine
- kings of european experimental rock. if people don't know 'em, check it out at www.dureforsog.com

Re: Swell records

alright! First message ever... I'll help keep it going here.
I've been listen constantly to this record I got, Rauhan Orkesteri... they're a finish improv group. It's free jazz-ish / folk-ish, but it's got a special joyous / playfullness that I can't get enough of. The record is on QBICO from Italy.

Re: Swell records

I don't have that Black Eyes record yet but I'm generally a sucker for all things Dischord. When I get back to Vancouver I plan to pick up the French Toast full-length (not super great I know, but I've played the **** out of their ep) and I'll probably download the first Smart Went Crazy album from itunes as I have a gift certificate (xmas!) and both the cd and lp are long out of print.

I should count how many Dischord releases I own... it's probably something stupid.

Re: Swell records

hmm, been going through a pretty big wilco kick and loving loose fur equally as much. i've actually been hitting up the library a lot lately which has a great cd selection (considering) and i've discovered some pretty inspiring old 70s rock like mott the hoople and quicksliver messenger service. a lot of neil young and grateful dead type jams but done really well. one other i've got to mention is the first califone record that's being re-released by thrill jockey. it's not out yet but you can stream individual tracks off their website (it's easy spend hours over their so be careful).

Re: Swell records

I'm trying to find an album by this guy called Semuin who's on Audio Dregs... but I can't find it anywhere... I heard the one mp3 on the audio dregs site and listen to it at least once a day. So great, me thinks.

Re: Swell records

I've been listening to the Matt Valentine/Erika Elder/Alex Neilson/Moses Jiggs LP on Qbico. That Alex Neilson is one of the hottest drummers about I reckon.

Also been listening to Calling Earth by the General & Duches Collins (new project from Richard Greentree, ex of the beta band). It's nice and summery.

Re: Swell records

Chevreuil is a two-piece hailing from France (?!) and they are really, really good. I saw them refered to as the "French Lightning Bolt", but I think this is only beacause they are two, and they play on the floor rather than the stage at shows. They are rocking, but they tend to have a bit of a sloppier sound and mess around with half beats, and falling off, yet keeping everything sounding right-on point.

Their latest, Capoeira, is especially mindblowing. Their concept is this: the drummr drums as the guitarist plays something dope, which he then loops, then goes and plays something else dope. The result is, predictably, super-dope.

They are on myspace and Sickroom Records.

Reccomended if you like: Battles, Steve Reich, Hella, Don Caballero etc.

Re: Swell records

Yeah that Beirut album is pretty neat.

I've been listening to the Tyondai Braxton full-length as of late and I must say it's awesome. Can't wait for new stuff.
