First Annual Africa & Diaspora Day @ St. Augustine's in Washington, DC
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 26, 2008 Washington, DC Founded in 1858 by emancipated slaves, Saint Augustine Catholic Church celebrates 150 years with the inauguration of its First Annual Africa & Diaspora Day on July 12, 2008. An all day event, the day will begin with an outdoor festival featuring an array of food, cultural workshops and live entertainment; followed by a multi-cultural mass showcasing music from Africa and its Diaspora; and ending with a spectacular evening affair that includes dinner, music, a fabulous African-inspired fashion show; and a keynote address by Fr. Cyprian Davis, world-renown historian and authority on Black Catholics. Proceeds from the celebration (which is expected to attract 2000+ participants) will go to St. Augustine’s School and several organizations that do critical work in Africa and the Diaspora.
