First Annual Africa & Diaspora Day @ St. Augustine's

Founded in 1858 by emancipated slaves, Saint Augustine Catholic Church celebrates 150 years with the inauguration of its First Annual Africa & Diaspora Day on July 12, 2008.

An all day event, the day will begin with an outdoor festival featuring an array of food, cultural workshops and live entertainment; followed by a multi-cultural mass showcasing music from Africa and its Diaspora; and ending with a spectacular evening affair that includes dinner, music, a fabulous African-inspired fashion show; and a keynote address by Fr. Cyprian Davis, world-renown historian and authority on Black Catholics.

Proceeds from the celebration (which is expected to attract 2000+ participants) will go to St. Augustine’s School and several organizations that do critical work in Africa and the Diaspora.

Interested sponsors, advertisers or vendors can contact:
Julian B. Kiganda, Event Chair: 240.432.3733 or Ntal Alimasi, Ministry Chair: 202.256.1781. Email: AfricaandDiaspora@gmail.com.
