Haiti's Children of God April 16 - 2008 - Dare to Dream Festival Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Affairs ‘Immigrant Heritage Week 2008’ ‘Haiti's Children of God’ Date: Thursday, April 17th, 2008 - 6.30 – 8.30pm Venue: Caribbean Cultural Center 408 W. 58th St NY NY 10019. Bet 9th and 10th Subway: 1,A,B,C,D to 59th St, Columbus Circle Free Admission In collaboration with the Caribbean American Repertory Theatre Inc and NYIHA MEDIA join us for an interactive evening of a stage reading of ‘Haiti's Children of God’ and film screening 'Human Rights in Quisqueya’ . Each medium explores Haitian migration and the social, economical and education issues of this country. Haiti’s Children of God (30mins) – Performed by the Caribbean American Repertory Theater Inc This stage reading explores the story of a young Haitian woman who risks her life and that of her unborn child to restore ousted President Aristide to power. Written by Lorey Hayes, a native of Wallace, North Carolina, honed her writingskills in New York at The Negro Ensemble Company, Frank Silvera’s Writer’s Workshop, Roger Furman Theater, The Frederick Douglas Creative Arts Center and Los Angeles’ Mark Taper Forum. Her plays have received numerous productions and readings. 'Human Rights in Quisqueya’ Nyiha Media – 35min, Spanish with English Subtitles This digital tapestry of divergent viewpoints on Haitians in Dominican Republic reflects our constant monitoring of media coverage of human rights in the Dominican Republic. The treatment of Haitian migration to the Dominican Republic is overly politicized. Any solution must be humane and in compliance with international laws. ++++++ The 2008 Dare to Dream Media & Arts Festival (April 16-19) April 16th 2008 5-9pm Venue: Caribbean Cultural Center 408 W. 58th St NY NY 10019. Bet 9th and 10th Subway: 1,A,B,C,D to 59th St, Columbus Circle Free Admission A multi-media opening night boasting film/video screenings, art exhibition, audio storytelling from Radio Rootz and a performance by the Caribbean Repertory Theater, live painting by The Trust Your Struggle Art Collective, and an interactive experience with the video game, ICED (I Can End Deportation) which puts players in the shoes of an immigrant to illustrate unfair immigration laws.
