Mark Your Calendars: 2008 Tonys Set for June 15; Other Key Dates Announced


The date for the American Theatre Wing’s 62nd Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards® ceremony has now been set. Broadway’s most coveted awards will be distributed on Sunday evening June 15, broadcast on CBS.

Other key 2008 Tony dates:

Wednesday, May 7
Official cut-off date for 2007-2008 Tony eligibility. Broadway shows that officially open on or before this date may be eligible for 2008 Tony Awards.

Tuesday, May 13
2008 Tony Award Nominations Annnouncement - log on here at TonyAwards.com at approximately 8:30 a.m. ET to get the list of nominations.

Wednesday, May 14
The annual Meet the Nominees Press Reception. We'll be there with cameras as the nominees face the press.

Thursday, May 29
Tony Nominees Luncheon, a chance for the nominees to celebrate each other’s achievements and receive their nomination certificates.

Saturday, June 14
Lifetime Achievement Ceremony. This private reception will celebrate the recipient of this year’s distinguished honor.

Sunday, June 15
The 62nd Annual Tony Awards
Radio City Music Hall®, New York City.
The 2008 Tony Awards will be telecast live in a three-hour special on the CBS television network beginning at 8:00 p.m./7c (delayed PT).

Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss of White Cherry Entertainment will return as Executive Producers of the Tonys, and Mr. Weiss will direct the telecast for the ninth consecutive year. Presented by Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing, the Tonys have been broadcast on CBS every year since 1978. The ceremony was first held at Radio City in 1997, and since then it has returned there each June except during the year the Hall was closed for renovations.

The 2008 awards ceremony will mark the debut of two new honors: Tony Awards for Best Sound Design of a Play and Best Sound Design of a Musical.
